Indoor Play Area

Indoor play area for our children to use while either waiting for treatment, during the monitoring period, post general anaesthetic recovery or while waiting to be seen in review clinics.

Last year in St Luke's Hospital  (SLH) we had 707 attendances for Paediatric Radiotherapy.  We have never had a suitable play area for our children to use while either waiting for treatment, during the monitoring period post general anaesthetic recovery or while waiting to be seen in review clinics.

Thanks to the generous support of the Friends of St. Luke’s, we are now developing an indoor play area. This area will be spacious, bright and equipped with play equipment suitable for all ages of children undergoing radiotherapy in SLH. It will be located in close proximity to our Clinical Nurse Manager and Radiotherapy Nurses’ station, should medical assistance be needed at any stage. The play area will also incorporate a family space, equipped with comfortable sofas and tea/coffee making facilities.

Separate from, but adjacent to the play area, will be a much needed adolescent area. This will provide a space where our teenage patients can wait (away from the general waiting areas) prior to having their treatment etc. It will be equipped with a PC, docking stations, device chargers etc. This facility is also being funded by the Friend’s of St. Luke’s, as part of the overall play area project.
