Tattooless Breast Radiotherapy Services in SLRON @ St James's Centre
The Award acknowledges the change to providing radiotherapy without tattoos. Traditionally small tattoos are used in radiotherapy to set patients up. SGRT technology allows departments to move away from using tattoos but involves a big change in set up techniques to do this.
The Radiation Therapists in SLRON @ SJC ran a pilot through QART to safely introduce the technique for patients having radiotherapy with breast cancer. The pilot is now completed and the next step is to roll out to all breast patients in SJC by August. The learning gained by the pilot will be used in SLRON in Beaumont shortly to move to tattooless treatment for breast patients and in SLRON @ SJC and St Luke's Hospital, Rathgar, to move to tattooless treatment for SABR thorax patients.
It is a big step forward for patients and staff.
