  • Biography

Dr. Guhan Rangaswamy is the Clinical Tutor in Radiation Oncology in SLRON since 2019, having been the first person to successfully define and undertake this role in the network. He completed his MBBS in 1993 graduating from Madras Medical College, India. He commenced employment in SLRON in 2002. He completed a Masters (MSc) in Clinical Oncology (UK) and has extensive clinical experience in Radiation Oncology covering multiple tumour sites across the three centres.

He has played an integral role in the development of the Higher Specialist Training programme in Radiation Oncology in Ireland since July 2019. In his capacity as member of the Radiation Oncology and Education committees, Faculty of Radiologists and Radiation Oncologists, RCSI, he has played a major part in the re-development of the national training curriculum. This ensures that our trainees receive the highest quality of education and training, which ultimately translates into exceptional care for our patients. He instituted the first series of structured contouring workshops in Organ at risk (OAR) and site-specific tumour volumes for the Specialist Registrars nationally in 2019 and successfully integrated this into the Radiation Oncology training curriculum in 2023. In 2021, he established the Junior Registrar Teaching series – a comprehensive teaching programme in radiation oncology for junior doctors and successfully set up didactic contouring tutorials for the radiotherapists. He has presented his work on furthering radiation oncology education at several international meetings including ASTRO and ESTRO.

In addition to his clinical and tutoring role, he has earned recognition for his leadership capabilities, most notably in his appointment as the National Radiation Oncology Education Lead for the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) in May 2023. He completed a Diploma in Leadership and Management with distinction in 2023 and is currently pursuing a Masters in Medical Education (Oncology).

After a brief spell as the Hospital Training Co-ordinator (HTC), SLRON Rathgar, Dr. Rangaswamy is going to take on the role of the National Training Co-ordinator (NTC) of the Radiation Oncology Higher Specialist Training Scheme in Ireland from July 2025.
