Radiotherapy is the core clinical treatment provided for patients in St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network. Radiotherapy is used to treat a variety of malignant diseases and occasionally benign conditions.
The delivery of radiotherapy involves a large multi-disciplinary team consisting of Consultant Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapists, Medical Physicists and Patient Service administrators. The team provides services from the initial clinical consultation where the need for radiotherapy is identified to the subsequent follow-up and after care.
Using sophisticated radiotherapy technology, we are dedicated to providing the best quality of care and support for patients. Our focus is to meet the individual needs of our patients throughout their treatment journey. Every patient has their own individual and unique radiotherapy treatment plan. The multi-disciplinary team creates this plan which can involve immobilisation, CT scanning, MRI scanning, and complex treatment plan design. The treatment plan is then ‘verified’ ahead of each radiotherapy treatment delivery by using imaging equipment attached to the radiotherapy treatment machines called linear accelerators.
